Can I Publish My FBN in a Different County?

Updated October 29, 2026

Short answer: generally no. A California FBN notice must run in a newspaper of general circulation in the county where the statement was filed, and the statement is filed in the county of your principal place of business, not your home address (B&P Code §17917(a)). The law only allows an adjoining county's newspaper when no qualifying newspaper exists in your own county. PublishProof publishes in your filing county for one flat price, from $59.

Which County Counts?

  • Business located in one county, you live in another: you file and publish in the county where the business is located.
  • No place of business in California: the notice runs in Sacramento County.
  • Already filed in the wrong county? Ask that county's clerk before you publish: publication has to match the county where the statement is on file.
