Terms of Service
Last updated October 2026
These terms govern your use of publishproof.net and the services of PublishProof, operated by Ikigai Lifestyle LLC dba PublishProof ("we," "us"), a California limited liability company. By placing an order, you agree to them.
1. What We Do
We place your California fictitious business name (FBN) statement for publication in an adjudicated newspaper of general circulation in your county, once a week for four consecutive weeks, and arrange for the affidavit of publication to be filed with the county clerk. We then email you a copy of the newspaper's signed affidavit and confirm that it was submitted to the county clerk.
2. We Are Not a Law Firm
PublishProof is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice. Nothing on this site is legal advice. Using our service does not create an attorney-client relationship. For legal questions, consult a licensed California attorney.
3. Your Responsibilities
- You must have already filed your FBN statement with the county clerk.
- The information and statement you provide must be accurate and complete. We publish the statement as filed.
- You are responsible for ordering in time. Publication must begin within 45 days of your filing date under California Business and Professions Code §17917. Newspapers publish on fixed weekly schedules, so orders placed close to the deadline may not be able to start in time.
4. Price and Payment
Prices are flat, per business name registered, and shown before you pay. The price covers four weekly publications, arranging the affidavit filing, and an emailed copy of the signed affidavit. County filing fees for your FBN statement are separate and paid by you to the county.
5. Re-Publish or Refund Promise, and Cancellations
Our promise. This covers mistakes made by us or the newspaper, whenever they happen:
- We or the newspaper make an error in your notice, or a run is missed: we arrange a corrected or replacement publication at no cost, or give you a full refund, at your choice. If a replacement publication can't be completed in time, full refund.
- Your notice fails to run, or we fail to complete the affidavit filing step: re-publication at no cost or a full refund, at your choice.
- We can't accept your order (for example, the statement is unreadable and you can't send a clear copy, the county isn't one we serve, or your 45-day window has passed): full refund.
- Errors in the statement you filed with the county are published as filed and are not our error.
If you cancel. What you get back depends on how far your order has gone:
- Before we submit your notice to the newspaper: full refund. We absorb the card processing fee. If you added the statement-copy option (Riverside County, $19; San Bernardino County, $11; San Diego County, $8; Fresno County, $8; Lake County, $8), its fee is non-refundable once the retrieval request has been placed with the county (where the county charges its own copy fee, that fee is spent at that point).
- After we submit it, before the first publication: refund minus a $10 cancellation fee and any newspaper charge the newspaper won't return to us.
- After the first publication: we refund only what the newspaper returns to us, if anything.
- After the second publication: no refund.
To cancel, use our contact form with your order reference. Refunds go back to your original payment method. County filing fees you paid to the county are not included.
6. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent allowed by law, our total liability for any claim related to an order is limited to the amount you paid us for that order. We are not liable for delays or errors caused by newspapers, county offices, or information you provided.
7. Communications
We communicate by email about your order. We do not send text messages or automated calls. Marketing emails are sent only if you opt in, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
8. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California.
